Welcome Visitors
FRID has four categories of membership: Nationally Certified, Pre-Certified Associate, Supporting, and Organizational. This Member Directory can be used to search for Organizational Members or Individual Members.
Individuals who are listed as Nationally Certified Members are professional sign language interpreters who have passed written and performance tests administered by, or recognized by, RID (Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf, Inc.) To learn more about the various certifications and descriptions, see Generalist Certificates on the RID website.
Individuals who are listed as
Pre-Certified Associate Members have had
some level of training and have passed certain tests. Quality Assurance (QA) Levels and Educational Interpreter Evaluation (EIE) Levels, issued by FRID, are a prime example.
Some Pre-Certified Associate Members have passed the RID NIC written test and/or the QA/EIE written test, as well as the QA and/or EIE performance test(s). Under these Pre-Certified Associate member profiles, you will find a QA and/or EIE Level listed.
Please read the description of each QA Level and/or EIE Level to learn more about appropriate work placement. Other Pre-Certified Associate Members have only passed the RID NIC
written test, but qualify as Pre-Certified Associate Members because of
their level of training and status as a "Candidate for Certification"
with RID. They have not yet passed performance tests administered by FRID or RID. Also included in this Pre-Certified Associate Member category are Deaf Interpreters who have had the requisite training to pass the RID CDI (Certified Deaf Interpreter) written test or the QA written test, but have not yet taken or passed the RID CDI performance test.
All Certified and
Pre-Certified Associate Members are required to remain active members
of both FRID (Florida Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf) and RID
(Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf,) which mandates adherence to the
RID-NAD Code of Professional Conduct and subjects them to an Ethical
Practices System (EPS).
