The X, Y and Z of Interpreting Math

Presenter: Paul Glaser, MSE, CDI/ Presented in ASL/ 0.9 RID PS CEUs - April 20 6-9pm & April 21 9am-4pm

SVRS, FRID, and Valencia College are co-sponsoring an interactive workshop taught by Paul Glaser – and you are invited! Come enjoy this two day workshop (both days required for CEUs) where you will become familiar with mathematic terms and learn how to apply them to interpreting settings.

Mathematics are an integral part of the curriculum for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students. It is not uncommon for teachers and interpreters to have different signs for frequently used mathematical terms. Such lack of standardization could have a detrimental effect on student’s learning. This workshop was designed to assist mathematics teachers, sign language interpreters and interpreting students to become familiar with mathematical signs. We will discuss the rationale behind choosing certain signs and provide opportunities for interpreters to practice incorporating them in their interpretations.

Join your friends and colleagues in an engaging environment and enjoy a complimentary lunch. In lieu of a registration fee, we will be collecting a $10 minimum donation for the Florida Deaf Art Show.

This workshop will be conducted in ASL without English interpretation. Participants in need of special accommodations are asked to email workshops@sorenson.com so arrangements can be made.
